Accessing Encrypted Fields

Tuesday 12th October, 2004
My friend Richard is having a problem accessing some encrypted documents using an agent on the server. I may as well just paste the dialog

Richard says:
Got a scheduled agent running on a server which is meant to get data out of encrypted documents in a database. The encryption keys are in the server ID, but we keep getting blank values when we read them
Ben says:
hmmm, interesting. have you tried opening these docs in a client using the server ID? like on the console or something?
Richard says:
Yes, works fine then. Also works fine on our test servers, but the production system wont play. Can't find any significant configuration difference
Ben says:
ah, so you've proved the concept
Ben says:
any error?
Ben says:
must be a difference somewhere
Ben says:
test environment the same notes build?
Richard says:
Yes, yes and yes
Richard says:
Without the encrytion key in the server ID we get the error "builk encryption key required" or something similar. With it, there is no error from the LotusScript, just empty values
Ben says:
hmmm, how bizarre. so it's definitely using the key if it errors without it
Richard says:
Yes, indeed
Ben says:
sounds to me that the decryption is working
Ben says:
and the error may be elsewhere
Richard says:
Yes - can't think what would cause it though

Any ideas guys?
