Charity Stunt Launch

Monday 28th February, 2005
As I mentioned back in early January, I'm planning a charity stunt this year to raise money for what I feel is a worthwhile cause. Following the loss of my mother and many other family members to Cancer I've decided that the beneficiary of this will be Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK aims to conquer cancer through world-class research. It is the UK's leading cancer charity, with a dedicated team of 3,000 scientists and an annual scientific spend of around £213 million. Its funds are raised almost entirely through voluntary donations.

As I'm not the fitness type, and not planning to run a marathon,  I've decided to give up something I love in the name of the cause. Inspired by a young child I know who gave up her toys for a week, I'm going to give up my favourite toy...computers & the internet. For one whole week, I will not use a computer, surf the web, nor send or read any email...not even send an SMS txt message. For a self-proclaimed geek who's online almost every waking moment this is going to be quite a challenge. As I work with computers, I've even booked that entire week off work in order to avoid computers completely. Anyone know any good books?

The stunt will run from midnight on Friday 25th March 2005 until midnight on Friday 1st April 2005, but donations will still be accepted after this date if you wish to give to this very worthwhile cause.

Donations are being taken online right now at my page on Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Also, if you're a corporate sponsor, it's a nice cheap advert to get your services advertised so feel free to put your company name in the comments section.

So please sponsor me right now!

Many thanks for your support.
