ID Certification Problem

Wednesday 8th June, 2005
Got a most strange problem that's just started here. Every new user we register, in any OU, using any certifier has a dodgy ID file create.

When opening Notes, the user is prompted for their password after which an error dialog displays

SPECIFIED PRIVATE KEY DOES NOT EXIST

Any ideas? Notes 6.5.4...

A quick search of my RSS feed archives for IBM support suggests this article:

    { Link }

It's not relevant until the very end, where suddenly it says that it's been reported to IBM as an issue.

A search on the same error on IBM's knowledgebase shows nothing useful though. Not even that article, which is odd. I'm losing my search mojo, I think... ;-)

Dont know if its relevant, we get that if you have Sametime enabled and you also have "switch to ID" set in advanced property of the location doc. if you switch id's, notes will spit up the same error, and force you to change location.

I believe the underlying reason is it is caching the internet (sametime) password in the location doc and it then doesnt match up with the new ID you have just switched to....

hopefully something in this scenario rings a bell?

I would concur with Jason's post. I've been seeing the same message when I switch locations from my main location doc to another that prompts me for ID. On my main loc doc I have IM set to auto logon. When I switch loc docs and switch IDs I get that error. If I set the IM logon to manual on my main loc doc and switch I don't get the error.

Just pulled this up from my internal FAQ. It may be related and you may want to compare the certificates:

Message: "Error updating local ID file: The information in the supplied certificates from the address book entry is out of date"

Getting the above error when opening notes.

On user's PC, go to File > Security > User Security.

Go to the Your Identity tab and then to the Your Certificates

Go to Other Actions then Mail, Copy Certificate

Click Mail Certificate then have user put in the email address of a Notes support staff and click OK.

When you receive the e-mail, copy the certificate that she sent to your clipboard.

Go to Comporium's address book and then go to user's person document.

Go to the Certificates tab and then delete everything in the Notes certified public key field (Or first compare and see if some of the beginning and ending bytes are different...) and paste in the certificate they sent you.

Save & Close and user shouldn't get this anymore...
