New Developments

Friday 28th October, 2005
We're now at the second stage of set-up of the user group. The initial announcement of the launch seems to have provoked a lot of interest and offers of help from around the UK, thanks to you all, but where do we go from here?

Firstly, it's important for me to start delegating tasks as there's no way I'm going to have enough control to do all this alone. I'm proposing that we split the UK into different areas; North West, North East, South West, South East, Midlands and Scotland.

We're not going to have any maps with lines drawn on and your membership will cover all areas, not just your local one; you will be able to attend any meets you wish. It's just by nominating a regional coordinator we'll be able to gain local knowledge of each area and organise local meets which will allow you to get to know a few people before any national events which may be a bit daunting for first timers. If you feel like you have what it takes to become a regional coordinator, please let me know. Bill Buchan has kindly taken on the Scottish region and I'll try and head up local stuff in the South East but if you're in one of the other areas it would be great to get a volunteer.

Secondly, we will shortly be opening a web based forum which will have sections for National and Regional events along with a general "anything goes" discussion area. We'll open other forum sections as traffic increases and the need arises. For example, technical discussion will probably need it's own place at some point. Please use the forum to post anything you feel relevant to the community.
