PC Rose - Update

Wednesday 13th April, 2005
I get asked about the progress of my Special Constabulary application occasionally so I thought I'd give you an update. I've just filled out the application form and it's ready to send off, I'll hopefully be joining Surrey police.

There's a long way to go. First I need to be accepted onto the force, passing whatever criteria they use. Then I guess I have to get through training etc. I also need to look into a number of areas. I've been warned that some life insurance policies and stuff may not pay out if you are killed/injured whilst performing police business. This could be an area of concern, I guess we'll see.

With the upcoming General Election, crime is a major topic of conversation. It's pretty much a daily conversation anywhere, especially in relation to speed cameras etc. Personally, I'm sick of being part of a world that has no respect for the law. People drive around breaking the speed limits with illegally displayed number plates and expect to get away with it. They even complain when and if they're caught.

Speed limits exist for a reason and, whether you agree with them or not, you're legally obliged to stick to them. The police don't make the laws, we pay them to enforce them and there's no point complaining to them...they're just doing their job.

Don't get me wrong, I've been known to break a speed limit or 2 myself in the past but never have I criticised the police for doing their job. It's certainly going to be an eye opener, should I get to properly see it from the side of the law.
